Xiazijie Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located in the Xiazijie area to the northeast of Klamayi City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It was named by the Xinjiang Petroleum Administration in 1984.
Lithology and Thickness
Conglomerate. Its lower part is composed of grey-brown siltstone, intercalated with grey sandy fine conglomerate, with a thickness of over 700 m. The base is sandy conglomerate. Its upper part is composed of grey-brown fine conglomerate, intercalated with brown-grey siltstone, with a thickness of over 300 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Disconformable contact with the underlying Jiamuhe Fm
Upper contact
Continuous transition relationship with the overlying Xiawurhe Fm
Regional extent
Distributed in the Xiazijie and Baikouquan areas to the northeast of Klamayi City on the northwestern margin of the Jungghariya. In the Baikouquan area it is composed grey-green and dark-brown fine-grained sandstone cemented by clayey substance, with a total thickness of 700 m.
